AKG K550 Audiophile Headphones
A detailed closed back pair of headphones that sound more like open headphones.
Now discontinued and somewhat sought after.
These have replacement aftermarket pads on that are very similar to the originals. The pads are deep and soft.
These are detailed and neutral to bright headphones suitable for critical listening, classical music, and anything where you want resolution and clarity.
They do not have a lot of bass, but the bass does go quite deep and is reasonably accurate and flat without booming or monotones. The amount of bass is quite dependent on the pads and the position of the phones on your head and you get a lot more bass if you press the phones in a bit. This may vary depending on your head size.
Because they are closed back you can use them for tracking, but thay are aimed at the home audiophile market and as a closed back alternative suitable for mixing.
I prefer my K612s for mixing, but those are a lot more expensive, and open back.
The elastic tied to them is because I tend to hunch forward over the guitar when recording and it stops the phones slipping forward, it isn't needed in normal use and can be removed.
